Google approval suggests Xiaomi Mi TV Stick is almost ready

From a 150-inch laser projector to a nearly USD 2,000 OLED TV, Xiaomi has been dabbling in audio-visual equipment for a while. Now it looks like the gadget maker is about to add a much tinier member to its lineup: A TV dongle.

A Mi TV stick, codenamed “aquaman,” was recently approved by Google to carry the Play app store, according to a tweet from Android TV Guide spotted by 9to5Google. The listing suggests it’ll only support 1080p video output since it uses an Amlogic S805Y processor. But there might also be a model in the works. A listing on Gearbest, a third party shopping site specializing in Chinese products, suggests a 4K version may also be coming.

Xiaomi previously gave fans an early glimpse of its first TV dongle back in May. The Mi TV Stick, along with an accompanying remote control, was teased during a Redmi Note 9 event for Germany. No release date has been announced yet.
