Music tech startup Musiio rakes in $1m seed round

Singapore-based music tech startup Musiio has raised US$1 million in a seed funding round. It uses AI technology to classify any music track according to its features and patterns, which makes it easier to discover new tracks.

Musiio, an Entrepreneur First alumnus, is considered to be the first venture capital-backed music AI startup in Southeast Asia, according to TechCrunch. Wavemaker Partners and Exponential Creativity Ventures are some of the investors in this round.

Musiio’s co-founder Hazel Savage told KrASIA in an interview last year about how Musiio seeks to offer a more efficient and timely tech-driven approach to ensure that long lists of new music tracks by different artist get an equal opportunity to be heard.

The technology claims to be able to reduce the time required to plow through 100,000 music tracks to 5 seconds. According to TechCrunch,  the company’s first big client is the Free Music Archive – a Creative Commons-like free music site – for which it helps to surface tracks that might otherwise remain undiscovered.
